when a decomposition reaction is carrried out by heating , it is called thermal decompsition( 'thermal' means 'relating to heat').

The decomposition of calcium carbonate into calcium oxide and carbondioxideis an example of thermal decomposition( because it is carried out by heating)

thermal decomposition is a reaction in which a compound splits into two or more compound when application to heat .....
e.g. 2HI ------>H2+I2.
