Thermite process
1)When highly reactive metals such as sodium , aluminium, calcium etc .are used as reducing agents they displace metals of lower reactivity from the compound.
2)They are exothermic reaction.
3)The amount of heat evolved is so large that the metals produced in molten state .
4)The reaction of iron oxide with aluminium is used to join railing of railway tracks or cracked machine parts .This reaction is known as the thermite process.
Application of thermite reaction in daily life
1)To join railings of railway tracks .
2)To join cracked machine parts.

Thermite process and its applications are explained below:
What is the thermite process?
- The thermite process is the reaction occurring between metals and their oxide and is an exothermic process.
- Fe2O3 + 2Al ------> 2Fe + Al2O3
Applications of the thermite process are:
- The thermite process is used for welding purposes.
- It is also used to join the railway tracts.
- It is also used in refining industries for refining or purifying metal from its oxide.
