In fragmentation the organism's body splits up into pieces at certain point in its life and each part grows into an individual organism. It is a type of asexual reproduction which can be seen in spirogyra. It is usually observer in plants and lower invertebrates and does not involve any specific cell function.

while, regeneration is the process of regrowth. It occurs due to loss or damage to a part of body after an accidents. In this process each piece may or may not grow into an individual organism. Regeneration is carried out by special cells which proliferate and then differentiate to form different cell and tissues. It is associated with partial ( as seen in lizards and human liver) or complete( as seen in planaria) regrowth of the tissue. It is observed in both vertebrates and invertebrates.
