Explanation:

A tornado is a rapidly rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the Earth and sky/ cloud. They are often referred to as twisters, whirlwinds, hurricane or cyclones. It is created when two winds flowing opposite to each other collide with drastic/ destructive speed or power.

The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of up to 300 mph. They can destroy large buildings, uproot trees and hurl vehicles hundreds of yards. They can also drive straw into trees. Damage paths can be in excess of one mile wide to 50 miles long.

Precaution which should be taken during tornadoes are:

Go to the basement or an inside room without windows on the lowest floor (bathroom, closet, center hallway). Avoid windows. For added protection get under something sturdy (a heavy table or workbench). Cover your body with a blanket, sleeping bag or mattress.
