■ The process of copying the genetic information from one strand of the DNA into RNA is called transcription.

■ The process of transcription is governed by the principle of complementarity.

■ During transcription only a segment of DNA and only one of its strand is copied into RNA.

■ It is because if both the strands are copied they would code for RNA molecule with different sequences.

■ The sequences of amino acids in protein synthesised by the two strands of DNA segment would be different.

■ It would complicate the genetic information mechanism.

■ If two RNA molecules produced, they would be complementary to each other and form a double stranded RNA which could prevent translation.
