Transition capacitance

  • Occurs basically when PN junction is in reverse biased condition
  • In reverse biasing situation it acts as an dielectric ..
  • The junction capacitance now will be termed as Transition capacitance as PN junction now acts as a parallel plate capacitor..

Diffusion capacitance

  • When the PN junction is forward biased a capacitance larger than transition capacitance comes into play and that's the diffusion capacitance!!
  • Diffusion capacitance occurs in a forward biased p-n junction diode.
  • Can be termed as strong capacitance too...
