The tree room in poem "Elementary school in a slum" is the room which the build on the trees where the squirrels play. The boy with the 'rat's eyes' was dreaming to escape from the dim light of the class and move out of the room to the bright and openness of the tree room. The children sitting the school of the slum wanted to escape it and explore the world. They were not interested in the teachings of the class but wanted to live in the openness of nature.
