A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself - and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That's what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is.

I think friendship is relative. People have different needs and wants from a friendship. But the basis of all human to human relationship is connection. Whether this connection is manifested through actions or words, trust or jealousy, money or knowledge this is contingent on the person himself or herself. Some may need many people around them to be called their friends; others a few. But all want that deep emotional, mental and even sometimes physical connection.
For me I will call a person a friend once I feel we have mutually mastered a connection between each other. Sometimes it is fake and sometimes my friend doesn't feel the same way as I do, but either way if I feel that connection, I will call him or her my friend.
