It is a Chromosomal disorder caused due to absence of one of the X chromosome, (i.e., 45 with XO). This type of disorder where an individual lack one pair of chromosome is also called monosomy. (here is monosomy of X chromosome).

Such females are sterile as ovaries are rudimentary besides other features including lack of secondary sexual characters.
