Answer

The universal law of gravitation was discovered by Newton.

The universal law of gravitation states that,

\leadsto The force of attraction between two particles is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

Consider two particles A and B of masses m and M.

Let r be the distance between their centres and F be the force of attraction between them

According to universal law of gravitation.

F ∞ mM and F ∝ r²

that is,

 \sf F \propto  \dfrac{Mm}{ {r}^{2} }

In other words,

\sf F = \dfrac{GMm}{ {r}^{2} }

Here, G is the universal Gravitational constant.

  • Its magnitude is G = 6.67 × 10¹¹ Nm²/kg²
  • It's dimensional formula is M¯¹L³T¯²
