Full name of uvula is palatine uvula and is very important, but one can live even without it. It is a tear drop-shaped thing dangling in the back of your throat. the small piece of flesh at the back of your throat plays a major role in our voice sound .
the uvula produces its own kind of saliva which very important. the saliva produced by uvula helps to keep our throats lubricated and it also become the first line of defense against viruses and bacteria along with soft palate and tonsils.
Unfortunately it becomes swollen if the immune cells present are unable to fight of germs and infections.
