here's ur answer ✍✍✍

★ Valency can be defined as the combining capacity of at atom.

It can be calculated by finding the no. of electrons in the last shell of an atom.
eg:- the no. of electrons in an atom of oxygen is 2 ..so valency of oxygen is 2

THE NUMBER OF ELECTRONS LOSES OR GAINED BY AN ELEMENT IS CALLED ITS VALENCY.

1--CL HAS ELECTRONIC CONFIGURATION (2,8,7).
SO, IT GAINES ONE ELECTRON TO BE STABLE LIKE ARGON....
SO ITS VALENCY IS -1.✔✔

2--NA HAS ELECTRONIC CONFIGURATION (2,8,1)
TO BE STABLE LIKE NEON IT LOSES ONE ELECTRON SO ITS VALENCY IS +1.✔✔
