The vector form of Coulomb’s law is
F⃗ 12=Q1Q24πϵR212a^12=Q1Q24πϵr⃗ 2−r⃗ 1|r⃗ 2−r⃗ 1|3
The middle expression is the best for understanding the physics of Coulomb’s law. It shows there is a 1/R2 dependence on force with distance R. and shows the positive direction for force is along the line connecting charge 1 to charge 2
The formula of Coulomb's law:
If we have two charge q1, q2. We have a formula
1) The magnitude of Coulomb's law:
F=k|q1||q2|r2F=k|q1||q2|r2
2) The vector form:
F12→=k(q1q2)r2r12^F12→=k(q1q2)/r2r12^
F12F12 is the force on q2q2 due to q1q1.
I don't get idea why we cannot put absolute data in the vector formula (the second formula). Why is it impossible to write:F12→=k(|q1||q2|)r2r12^F12→=k(|q1||q2|)/r2r12^
