victor Meyer's Test.
A test used to distinguish between primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols. This test involves following steps
1.Alcohols Rxn.with P/Iodine
To form corresponding alkyl iodide.
2.RI Rxn with AgNO2.
That converts RI to corresponding RNO2(nitroalkanes)
3.RNO2 Rxn.with HN02.
To form
Primary series -Nitrolic Acid.
Sec. Series-pseudonitrole.
Tert. Series -No rxn.
4. Rxn with Aq. NaoH.
Primary -Blood Red colouration.
Sec. - Blue colouration
Tert. -colourless.
This test is also k/a Red, Blue & white test.
