Viviparous germination is noticed in all halophytic plants except sundri.

In this proceas gremination of the seed occurs in the fruit attatched to the plant and the radical emwrges out as a pointed conical structure which helps in anchoring the detatched seed in the moist soil thereby preventing its washing away by the waves.

1. It differs from other types of germination it is a special type of seed germination.

2. It is a characteristic of mangrove vegetation.

3. Those are usually found in muddy saline conditions.

4. Rhizophora, Aricennia, Sonneratia, etc. are the some examples of this type of germination.

5. Dormancy is not found in such plants.

6. It is also known as vivipary.
