In democratic elections, just like the elections held in India, the list of people eligible to vote in a constituency is prepared much before the elections and is officialy called as the Electoral Roll or simply the Voters List. It is updated from time to time. Each constituency has its own Voters List.
It includes the names of people who can cast their vote during the elections in a constituency.
It makes sure a single person cant cast two votes. It helps in the prevention of duplicate voters\votes.
It adds the names of people who have crossed the age of 18, so that they will be able to cast their votes in the elections, and the names of persons who are late(dead).
It ensures Universal Adult Franchise that is mentio.ned in the Constitution of India
Insures that there is no corruption during elections.
