→ Vulcanization ( also spelled as vulcaniaation ) is a process or more specifically a chemical process in which polymers are converted into a form which more durable than their initial form.

→ It is performed by creating crosslinks.

→ If we form cross links between each polymer chain, it also affects the mechanical properties of that particular element over which the vulcanization process is done.

→ It is quite often that we use the term " vulcanized fibre " by which we actually refer to a kind of cellulose that is in fact treated by a zinc chloride (  \bold{ZnCl_2} ) solution so that the cellulose fibres are crosslinked.

→ A rubber, which had undergone the process of vulcanisation is called and known as vulcanised rubber. Such a rubber is more durable than its raw form.
