The number of water molecules that are formed in between the voids or gaps between the crystals of a salt is called as water of crystallisation.


Each element has it's own water of crystallisation.


E.g. CuSO₄ . 5 H₂O


Here 5 H₂O represents 5 molecules of water of crystallisation.
