Hey mate !!!

water of crystallization:-

it is number of water molecules present in 1 formula unit of salt.

for example epsom salt .

chemical name of the substance is Sodium carbonate.

it is also known as washing soda.

washing soda contain 10 molecule of water of crystallization

formula of washing soda is:-

Na2co3.10 H20.

it is obtained by following process:-

Na2co3 + 10 H20 = Na2co3 . 10 H20 .

through the combination of sodium carbonate with 10 molecule of water we get washing soda that is sodium carbonate.

following are the two uses of sodium carbonate washing soda.

1) it is used in manufacture of glass.

2) it is also used in manufacture of detergent powder, it is also used for industrial chemical.

hope it helps!!!!

thanks

The water molecules which are part of the structure of a crystal of a salt are called as Water of crystallization.

The common name and chemical formula of a commercially important compound which has ten water molecules is Sodium Carbonate [washing soda]
Na2CO3.10H2O

Preparation:

A cold and Conc. Solution of Sodium chloride is reacted with Ammonia and Carbon dioxide to obtain Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate.

NaCl +NH3 +H2O+CO2------->NaHCO3 +NH4Cl

Sodium Hydrogenarbonate is separated by filtration , dried and heated.
On heating , sodium hydrogen carbonate decomposes to form Sodium carbonate.
2NaHCO3 ----------> Na2CO3 + CO2 + H2O

Anhydrous sodium carbonate is dissolved in water and to get 10 molecules of water of crystallisation.

Na2CO3+10H2O---------->Na2CO3.10H2O

USES:
---->Used for removing permanent hardness of water.
---->Used as cleansing agent for domestic purposes like washing clothes...
