Water pollution is the pollution of bodies ofwater, such as lakes, rivers, seas, the oceans, as well as groundwater. It occurs whenpollutants reach these bodies of water, without treatment. Waste from homes, factories and other buildings get into the waterbodies and as a result water gets contaminated .

The causes of water pollution vary and may be both natural and anthropogenic. However, the most common causes of water pollutionare the anthropogenic ones, including: Agriculture runoff - carrying fertilizers, pesticides/insecticides/herbicides and otherpollutants into water bodies such as lakes, rivers, ponds).
