hi

Periods is scientific form known as mensuration.

The menstrual cycle is the regular natural change that occurs in the female reproductive system that makes pregnancy possible. The cycle is required for the production of oocyte, and for the preparation of the uterus for pregnancy. The menstrual cycle occurs due to the rise and fall of hormones.

A woman's body releases tissue it no longer needs. Every month or so, the uterus lining gets thicker to prepare for a fertilized ova( a germ cell or a sex cell) if the woman becomes pregnant. If the ova doesn't get fertilized, that lining is released from the body as blood through the vagina.

Once the ova is fertilised then the women is pregnant and this cycle stops for 9 months.

{ova( a germ cell or a sex cell) in other words can be said as egg.}

The average age for a girl to get her first period is 12.

Menopause is permanent stop of these cycles. The average age of menopause is 51 years old, but menopause may occur as early as the 30s or as late as the 60s.

hope it helps
