What is work input and work output in machines?

Work input in a machine is equal to the effort force in the direction of the displacement times the displacement.
OR
Wi = Fi × s
where, Wi = Work input and Fi = Force input

Work output in a machine is the work done by the machine. There's no common formula for this. It's formula will change according to the question given. It's value is always less than the energy input but the force output might be too higher than the force input.

The work done on the machine by the effort is called work input.

Work input=Work done by the effort

The work done by the machine on load is called work output.

Work output = Work done by the load.
