Answer:

It is the vascular tissue in plants which transports water and dissolved nutrients upward from the roots.

xylem consists of four types:-

1) Tracheids

2) Vessels

3) Xylem Parenchyma

4) Xylem Sclerenchyma

functions of xylem are:-

1) Tracheids:- transport of water and mineral salts

2) Vessels:- conduction of water and mineral. These cells are dead.

3) Xylem Parenchyma:- stores metabolites produced from metabolism of plants. Also help in short distance transport.

4) Xylem Sclerenchyma:- provide mechanical support. The walls of xylem fibres are lignified and protoplasm is absent.
