In the story, 'The Letter', the postmen of the post office were rude. They often played mean jokes on Ali. They called out his name, even there was no letter for him, just to see him jump from his seat. They call him a mad man who, without caring about the weather visits the post office daily at 4 a.m from the past five years.
The postmaster was an arrogant man. He was as expression less as a pumpkin. He was unsympathetic towards Ali. He called him 'a pest' and rebuked him.
