There are four types of valves present in our heart. A tricuspid valve, A bicuspid valve and two semi lunar valves.

As the valves in our heart are one way means they can only allow the blood to move in one direction and prevents back flow that results in efficient functioning of the heart.

But, if the valves start allowing the blood to flow back, this will decreases the performance of the organ by interfering with the regular functioning and back flow will not only increase the time of blood flow through the heart but will decrease its efficiency too.

For example, it occurs in mitral valve regurgitation where valves allow he back flow of blood. In such condition, you will feel tired or swelling in your leg area or you will feel hard time catching your breath.
