I think the narrator, is a practical man. He understands Tricki's illness at once. He very easily and cleverly persuades Mrs.Pumphrey to send Tricki to the surgery. He very tactfully answers Mrs. Pumphrey's calls. He enjoys the food sent by Mrs. Pumphrey for Tricky as he was aware that the food would harm Tricky instead of benefiting him. so, it can be said that he is tactful as well as full of common sense.
