In all type of sickle cell disease, at least one of the two abnormal genes causes a person's body to make haemoglobin S.

When a person habit to hemoglobin S genes, the disease is called sickle cell Anemia

Causes of Sickle cell anaemia ::

❇ The disease is caused due to the substitution of glutamic acid by valine. at the 6 th position of the beta globin chain. of haemoglobin.

❇ The amino acid is changed from

" GAG --- GUG "

❇The mutant haemoglobin molecule undergoes polymerisation under low oxygen tension causing change in shape of RBC.

❇From biconcave to sickle shape.
