There are four kinds of friction :-

1) Static friction :- is a force that keeps an object at rest. Example - Hold a book against a wall by applying a force perpendicular to the wall.

2)Sliding friction :-Sliding friction (also called kinetic friction) is a contact force that resists the sliding motion of two objects or an object and a surface. Example - Rubbing both hands together to create heat.

3)Rolling friction:-The force resisting the motion of a rolling body on a surface is known as rolling friction or rolling resistance. Example- Rolling of ball or wheel on the ground.

4)Fluid friction:-Fluid friction is friction that acts on objects that are moving through a fluid. Example:- Air resistance is an example of fluid friction
