Author Ruskin Bond described Mr Oliver as a Fearless and non imaginative man but later we read in the story that he imagine aur seen a faceless creature that was a strange thing this described him he was a imaginative man

Mr.Oliver was an Anglo-Indian teacher, who used to teach in a school, located 3 miles away from Shimla. He was a bachelor and was staying alone in the premises of the school. He used to walk down every evening to the Shimla Bazaar and return after dark by taking a shortcut through the pine forest.

He was a courageous man and dd not believe in imaginary or ghost stories. So he never felt any kind of fear while walking through the pine forest at night even though sometimes the weather was windy and the pine trees made eerie and sad sounds.

Once while walking through the pine forest at night, he saw a boy sitting alone on a rock. From his school cap, he could make out that the boy was a hostel student. He was surprised to see the boy sitting alone at that time since the hostel boys were forbidden to move out after dark.

Till the time he is not aware of reality, he has concern for the boy. A moment later, the strange scene frightens him and he runs to save his life. While running from there,he bumped into a watchman, who was again featureless like the boy, he had met earlier.

Hope it's help you
