The animals which use the resources (energy) of their host to survive but benefit the host in some way.

  • For example in us humans, there are millions of bacteria in our gut which use some of our food for survival but also break down the food making it easier to digest.
  • In the roots of some leguminous plants there are nitrifying bacteria which convert atmospheric oxygen into useful nitrates for the plants.

But never confuse symbiotes for parasites, because parasite just use up the resources of an animal and don't help them in any way.
