In 1867, the Prarthana Samaj which is also known as 'Prayer Samaj' was founded by "Atmaram Pandurang".
It was a Bombay based social and religious reform movement. The movement was started to make people believe in 'One God' and asked them to follow only one God which is the creator of this world.
Telugu reformer, Viresalingam also spread this movement in the south area of the country.
