1. Rotation - The Earth rotates in it's axis.This motion is called rotation of Earth. It takes 24 hours. ( It is actually 23 hours 56 minutes. That is the reason why we experience short days in winter and longer days in summer )! This causes day and night as when the one hemisphere faces the sun it is day there and night in the opposite hemisphere as that part does not receive sunlight.

2.Revolution - The Earth also revolves around the Sun. This motion is called revolution of Earth. This leads to change in seasons. It takes 365 days to complete 1 revolution. ( It is actually 365 days and 6 hours !! That is the reaason why we experience day and night !!)
