What led english to borrowing?

The English language is in vast debts nearly  80% of the English dictionary words are borrowed from other languages of the world. Most of the words come from German and Fench language. Also, a long list of words is included from Latin, Greek and a small percentage from Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch. The borrowed word proved to be extremely helpful in enching the vocabulary of English words.
