Scientific Revolution brought about by Copernicus and Galileo challenged the Ptolemy theory that Earth is the center of the universe.

During their study they found that considering earth as the center, planets were found to travel back several times in what is known as retrograde motion.

There were too many circles, sometimes as many as seven that made the model too cumbersome to have natural occurrence.

It was then, that they proposed that the sun lay near the earth and it was the rotation of the earth that saw the rise and set of the sun and it was the planets that revolved around the sun.
