The term arises from European class systems, traditionally there were 3 classes each with 3 sub-classes.
 
Upper upper class - were the monarch, their family and close relatives.
Middle upper class - were the clergy
Lower upper class - were all other hereditary aristocrats (Barons, Earls, Knights, military officers)
 
Upper middle class - Most wealthy among merchants, landlords, bankers and land-owners (Not hereditary aristos)

1.the industrial revolution witnessed the rise of new social groups middle class comprising of industrialists businessmen professionals who believed in the social structure that was based on merit and not birth.
2.they believed that no group should be privileged on account of birth rather a society must be based on the principles of freedom equal laws and opportunities.

4.it was the liberal educated middle class who demanded the end of aristocratic privileges and encouraged national unity.
5.they were inspired by the doctrine and ideas of liberalism and demanded government based on the consent and stood for freedom and equality for all.
