Traditionally, those who are considered great in a standard sense leave tangible, physical legacies behind them. They win awards, people name things after them, people build monuments to them, and so on. In this poem, though, the great leave a different legacy behind them.

Great people leave behind legacies as said by Stephen Spender. Whenever someone mentions them, they are not remembered by what they earned but by what they have done for society.  

Explanation:

Spender does not describe great people as people who have earned Oscars or Nobles or are celebrated all around the globe but those who leave a long-lasting impact on all of the world.  

These people are therefore those whose everlasting impact has left a legacy behind. Therefore, these legacies of great men will continue to last ever-long.
