What lessons can one learn from the story the prize poem?

When I first read P.G Wodehouse’s short story, The Prize Poem, way back in high school it didn’t have much of an impression on me. It was one of those matters that teachers make you contemplate whether you like it or not, and though I saw it simply as part of a very boring syllabus, I still think of it in scraps and parts.
