Secularism in India means equal treatment of all religions by the state. With the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution of India enacted in 1976, the Preamble to the Constitution asserted that India is a secular nation. However, neither India's constitution nor its laws define the relationship between religion and state.

Or

Constitutional provisions that can make India a secular County are as follows:-
(1) our constitution does not give a special status to any religion. there is no official religion of the Indian state.
(2) the constitution provides to all individuals and communities freedom to profess, practice and propagate any religion, or not to follow any.
(3) the constitution prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion.
(4) at the same time the constitution allows the state to intervene in the matters of religion in order to ensure equality within religious communities.
this makes India a secular County
