There are various reasons why some memories "stick" and others dont.
The memories which remain more etched are the ones which might have been traumatic, as in cases of utter excitement, the adrenaline rush increases, making the brain cells register the incident more.
Also, our emotive state affects our memory of events.
Depending on what we felt at the time of the incident, our brain may either repress the incident or choose to keep it at the forefront.
