As pure Copper’s fairly soft I wouldn’t agree with your using the word ‘ideal’, bronze - an alloy of Copper and Tin - is structurally more useful being tougher, but anyway….
First it’s less subject to saltwater corrosion, and when struck it doesn’t produce sparks as with many alloys of Iron such as steel. Important on an off-shore drilling platform!
It’s a great electrical conductor too, if you’re thinking of what wiring should be made from.
