what makes wavelength unique

Colours are actually just different wavelengths. Electrons jump from one energy level to another energy level. If they jump from a higher energy level to a lower energy level, they lose some amount of the energy they have. This energy is given out in the form of light. And since there are many energy levels, the electrons give out different amounts of energy resulting in different wavelengths, i.e. colours.
