What mass of hno3 is needed to convert 12.7g of i2 to hio3 according to the following reaction : I2 + HNO3 --- 2HIO3+ 10NO2+4H2O

Mol. mass of I2 = approx 127u = 1 mol I2

Now 1 mol of I2 is converted by 1 mol of HNO3 to HIO3

i.e 127g/mol I2 is converted by 63 g/mol of HNO3

So, 12.7g I2 is converted by (63/127)x12.7g of HNO3 which is 6.3g
