so in this question we can only do is simplyfy because this is just an expression not an equation
so
3(2x+4)-4(x-1)
here we can do is distribute the numbers outside the bracket
(3*2x+3*4)-(4*x(-1)*4)
(6x+12)-(4x-4)
now the minus sign will be distributed into the bracket
6x+12-4x+4
now on simplification
6x-4x+12+4
2x+16
Answer is 2x+16
