Alauddin Khilji was considered as the greatest ruler of Delhi Sultanate. He ruled Delhi for 20 years. His policies were very effective and efficient. He took the following measures against Nobility in order to assert his power and discourage rebellions.

Regulations against Nobility:

• Alauddin Khilji understood that general prosperity of his officials, intermarriages between the families of grandee, ineffeciency in the espionage system and drinking liquor were the major causes of rebellion.

• Alauddin Khilji therefore passed four ordinances.

• Firstly, he confiscated all grants of tax-free land and siezed Muslim religious endowments.

• Secondly, he reorganized the intelligence system.

• Thirdly, the public sale of liquor and drugs was totally prohibited.

• The final ordinance was ban of public gatherings in noblemen houses.

In this way, Khilji asserted his power and discouraged rebellions.
