Two major lessons from the French revolution are ;
I. Idealism or despotism both tend to crumble by their own weight.
II. Revolution is not about freedom , but about rational control of freedom. This is because emotionalities can bring great change in our lives , but sustaining of that change depends solely on the rationalities.
III. Power in itself is a neutral thing, and tilts in favour of the moralities of the people at the helm of power. For good people rule of law proves to be good, and vice versa.
French revolution started off as a good idea by King Louis XVI to call an assembly of Estates General in 1789 to resolve the growing discontent among the masses. But it rapidly devolved into chaos and death. Louis XVI and his family were guillotined, all landed property of the Church were confiscated, commons man’s war finally ended in 1799 when Napoleon took over as a dictator, who finally became the emperor in 1804.
