Genghis Khan, born Temujin (1162-1227 CE), was the founder of the Mongol Empire that lasted from 1206-1368 CE. He helped create the largest land-based empire in human history. His rise to power as the first king or ruler was brought about through the unification of all the Mongol tribes into a single, cohesive, power.
