Let the quantity to be added to (1 - 2x + 3) be 'w'.

Thus,

(1 - 2x + 3) + w = 3 + 5x -7x

w = (3 - 4) + (-2x + 2x)

[w = -1 ]

Therefore, -1 must be added to (1 - 2x + 3) to get (3 + 5x -7x)

Now, the second question:

Let the quantity to be subtracted from (4m + 5m - 3) be 'n'.

Thus,

4m + 5m - 3 - n = m - 3m

n = 9m + 2m - 3

[n = 11m - 3 ]

Therefore, (11m - 3) must be subtracted from (4m + 5m - 3) to get (m - 3m)
