Let the number be x

-4/9 × x = 1/2
x = 1/2 × -9/4 = -9/6 = -3/2

 \frac{-4}{9}  × ___ =  \frac{1}{2}
Let us assume the value as "z"
⇒  \frac{-4}{9}  × z =  \frac{1}{2}
⇒ z =  \frac{1}{2}  ×   \frac{-9}{4}
⇒  \frac{-3}{2}
∴ the number to be multiplied by is  \frac{-3}{2}
