let,the number substracted be z

(2x + 5y) - z = (x + 2y) \\ \\ (2x + 5y) - (x + 2y) = z \\ \\ 2x + 5y - x - 2y = z \\ \\ x + 3y = z

x+3y must be substeacted from 2x+5y to get x+2y
