The class of reactions that transforms saturated hydrocarbons into unsaturated hydrocarbons are called dehydrogenation (elimination) because saturated hydrocarbons contain more hydrogen than unsaturated hydrocarbons. Since hydrogen is removed from saturated compound to make it un- saturated, it is known as dehydrogenation (elimination).
